Dr. Alex Gilmore DVM PhD
Lead Veterinary Surgeon
Hello, I am Dr Alexandra Gilmore, and I moved to Waiheke Island in 2014. I’m originally from Germany (I graduated there in 2004), and I combined my passion for travel and veterinary medicine by becoming a vet here in New Zealand.
The journey to get here wasn`t always easy – I had to re-sit all of my veterinary exams while also navigating the challenges of New Zealand’s immigration process. Running a vet practice and raising a family means life has become very busy, but we absolutely love what we do!
When I’m not working, I enjoy going to the cinema or the gym, photography, reading, pottery, travelling, or simply walking the dog down at the beach or catching up with friends. You will also see our little son, Eden, keeping us on our toes!
Looking back at my life so far, I think I can be pretty proud: I’ve worked in several companion animal clinics across Germany, travelled the world – Australia, South Africa, India (where I also did some practical training and volunteer work), America, and of course Europe (that’s an easy one, since I’m from there!), writing my PHD in Brazil, to be sitting here now and watching the sun set over Waiheke Island, it’s really not bad at all.
